Sing a Little Joy

Many schools have struggled to keep music going over the last few months. For many students, music is at the very heart of what makes them tick, and not being able to play in bands and orchestras and sing in choirs has been very hard.

However, that is not to say that music cannot continue in any way, and bring some joy to students, teachers and parents at this time of the year. At Springwood High School in King’s Lynn, Head Teacher, Andy Johnson has a mantra that he says whenever he sees a member of the music staff ‘We need Music to bring some joy!’

Director of Music, Peter Strudwick has taken Andy at his word, and sat down with another member of staff, Lauren Knight, to write a Christmas song that will spread some joy. The result is ‘Sing A Little Joy’, and for the last few weeks students from schools in Norfolk, led by a series of socially distanced choirs from Springwood, have been recording the song and videoing themselves performing. In all, some 300 children are singing across some 20 schools. The song is a musical and technological miracle and aims to bring some joy!

The result is an amazing song with an epic stadium anthem feel and which is guaranteed to get everyone who hears it singing along. The song is being released as a single on December 18th and will be available on all music platforms for streaming and download. We are releasing it commercially so we can also raise funds for NHS charities – Springwood in just ¼ mile from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and many of our pupils have parents who work at the hospital.

If we can drum up some high profile media attention, we are hoping that the song could go viral and make the charts. This needs anyone to use any contacts they have to promote the song using the hashtag #singalittlejoy.

Advance promo copies of the song should not be released to anyone except media contacts and should not be publicly shared until the song is released. A video of the song has been released on Youtube and can be viewed by clicking the link below:
